How to Choose a Suitable Ultrasonic Mold

Common ultrasonic mold materials are aluminum alloy, steel and titanium alloy, different materials suitable for different application and products to be welded. Also, aluminum alloy, steel and titanium alloy horns have their advantages and disadvantages. We can make a decision based on our own products.

1. aluminum alloy

Advantages: The aluminum alloy ultrasonic mold has features of light weight, small density characteristics. The ultrasonic transmission rate of aluminum alloy ultrasonic horn is very high, so it is suitable to be used in large size horn. Its hardness is not particularly high, so more complex grain can be engraved on aluminum alloy ultrasonic horns. Besides, its processing cost is relatively cheaper.

Disadvantages: its wear resistance degree is low, so aluminum alloy ultrasonic horn is suitable for the application of sealing, welding and other non-continuous and high strength friction operations.

In general, if the ultrasonic wave intensity is high and the surface of the mold needs to be carved, it is suitable for the use of aluminum alloy ultrasonic horns.

2. steel

Advantages: steel mold has the advantages of High hardness, high wear resistance, long service life, high stability and so on.

Disadvantages: the transmission rate of ultrasonic is relatively low, and the acoustic impedance is relatively large, the heat dissipation is poor.  In order to ensure the transmission effect of ultrasonic wave, it is not suitable for the large size ultrasonic mould. If the application shape is round, the unit diameter should not exceed 11.5cm.

3. titanium alloy

Advantages: With High hardness, high wear resistance, fast heat dissipation, light weight, low density and other features. When the same power ultrasonic wave is generated, under same volume, the ultrasonic transmission rate of titanium alloy mould is higher than that of the steel mold.  Titanium mould can be said to combine many advantages of steel mould and aluminum mould.

Disadvantages: Under the same specification, the cost of titanium mould is far beyond that of aluminum mould and steel mould.  Due to the large hardness, the processing time and processing cost will be much higher, so the titanium alloy ultrasonic mould is suitable for the application of higher ultrasonic transmission rate, relatively large working face, in addition, but it is suitable for being used in the workplace with high wear resistance.

Our factory has a professional mold production workshop with CNC precision processing. Each set of ultrasonic mold must pass strict test before leaving the factory.  For the mold, in order to make each mold reaches a perfect state and let amplitude distributes in each position evenly, we will use ANSYS finite element simulation analysis software to design for many times before production. Only in this way, can we make sure that the vibration effect of the mold is more perfect, the service life will be longer.
